I’M New…What should I expect?
What’s Worship
like?
At Brookline Church of Christ, our worship is simple, Christ-centered, and rooted in the teachings of the New Testament. Whether you have attended church your entire life or are exploring faith for the first time, we want you to feel welcome as we gather to honor God together.
When we worship, you can expect prayer, Scripture reading, the Lord's Supper, giving, and congregational singing. Our focus is on drawing closer to God and encouraging one another in faith.
One distinctive aspect of our worship is that we sing a cappella. We do this because we seek to follow the pattern we find in the New Testament. In Ephesians 5:19, Christians are encouraged to speak to one another "with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord." Similarly, Colossians 3:16 instructs believers to teach and encourage one another through "psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with gratitude in your hearts to God." Because these passages emphasize heartfelt singing, we choose to worship with voices alone as we praise God together.
What about my kids?
At Brookline Church of Christ, we love helping children grow in their knowledge of God and His Word. Our K–6th grade Sunday School program, JourneyLand, is designed to bring Bible stories to life through an engaging rotation of Storytelling, Song, Arts & Crafts, Geography, Games, and Theatre. By experiencing each lesson in a variety of ways, children can connect with Scripture in the ways that are most meaningful and impactful for them, helping them gain a deeper understanding of God's story.
During our worship service, children join their families in the auditorium for singing, prayer, the Lord's Supper, and the offering, allowing them to participate in the life of the church alongside their parents. For families with younger children, we also offer an optional Little Lambs program for ages 0–2 during the sermon. Whether your children are infants, elementary-aged, or somewhere in between, we want them to feel loved, valued, and excited to learn about Jesus.
What do I wear?
At Brookline Church of Christ, you'll find people dressed in a variety of ways on Sunday mornings. Some enjoy wearing their "Sunday best," while others feel most comfortable in jeans and casual attire. We do not have a dress code, and we believe that what matters most is a heart focused on worshiping God. Whether you come dressed up or dressed casually, you'll be welcomed just as you are. Our desire is for everyone to feel comfortable, encouraged, and at home as we gather together to worship and grow in faith.
Will i be asked to participate in the offering?
No. While there is a giving portion of our worship service during which collection plates are passed, guests are under absolutely no obligation to participate. Giving is a personal and voluntary act of worship for our members, and any contribution is completely anonymous. The funds collected help support mission efforts both locally and around the world, as well as the ministries and maintenance of our church family. If, as a visitor, you feel led to contribute, you may do so by placing a gift in the offering plate or by using the QR code provided for our online giving platform, Tithe.ly. However, please know that your presence is far more important to us than your contribution, and we do not expect our guests to give.
